Disney Destiny Features and Ship Class

Welcome back to cruising into the weekend!

Let’s take a look at the Disney Destiny and what you can expect from a ship of its class.

Disney Cruise Line’s fleet includes three classes of ship. They aren’t named, to my knowledge, but the first and smallest class contains the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. After these two, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy were built, also a class of their own. The most recently constructed ships make up a third class, these being the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and, soon, Disney Destiny. How are these different?

Most notably, the differences we see have to do with capacity. The first class of ships carries up to 2,713 passengers across 875 staterooms. The second class of ships carries up to 4,000 passengers across 1,250 staterooms. Similar to the second class, the third class of ships can carry up to 4,000 passengers across 1,244 (Disney Wish)/1,246 (Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny) staterooms. That’s a lot of numbers to say that the first class is great for first time cruisers looking to explore a smaller ship with fewer people on board.

Beyond capacity, you’ll see a great deal of variety when it comes to what’s on board each ship. Certain concepts are consistent, like adult-exclusive dining experiences and kids clubs, but the theming varies. Let’s focus on the third class of ship, as this pertains to the Disney Destiny

Dining

When it comes to dining, Disney Cruise Line employs what it calls ‘rotational dining’. I really enjoy this system! Passengers eat at one of three dining rooms each night, and the following night they go to a different assigned dining room. With itineraries starting at three nights in length, guests are guaranteed to eat at all of the featured locations if they so choose. The rotation continues on longer sailings, so you’re likely to eat at your favorite spot more than once! This adds variety without it being up to a guest to choose where they eat. Perfect for staying in vacation mode.

The three feature dining experiences on the Disney Destiny will be Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King, Worlds of Marvel, and 1923. Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King looks like it is going to be an incredible experience with live performers entertaining you with a retelling of “The Lion King”. Worlds of Marvel will have you saving the world by the time dinner is over, and 1923 will be a classy ‘20s setting decorated with storyboards and props that bring to mind favorite characters. Outside of these sit-down options, there will be quick service counters, cafes, a buffet, and adult-specialty dining.

Adults-only

DCL excels in entertaining all ages, and having littles is not a requirement to enjoy their cruises! Themed, adult-exclusive bars coming on the Disney Destiny are going to be amazing. You’ll get to enjoy De Vil’s, a lounge styled after the villain of “101 Dalmatians”, Cask and Cannon will be a Pirates of the Caribbean®-themed lounge, and The Haunted Mansion Parlor. This third location will draw inspiration from Disney’s Haunted Mansion®, my all-time favorite ride in all of Walt Disney World®. I’m ridiculously excited for this one!

Outside of lounges, adults can enjoy elevated spaces in Senses Spa and Salon, Quiet Cove Pool, Palo Steakhouse, and Enchanté. The latter two are specialty dining experiences that come at an additional fee.

For the kids

Now that we’ve looked at the lovely adult spaces, let’s scratch the surface of all the offerings for the kids. Kids clubs are exciting for parents in that they aren’t allowed! Let’s break it down:

“it’s a small world” nursery! This is a space for little 6 months to 3 years old. For your child to enjoy this space, their time needs to be reserved and comes at an additional cost.

Walt Disney Imagineering Lab Ages 3-10 enjoy an interactive area with hands-on activities catered to their age range.

Edge For the 11-14 year-olds, Edge balances structured activities and freetime in a New York apartment-themed environment. This is a great place for your tweens to make friends on board.

Vibe This space styled after a Parisian loft is for 14-17 year-olds. It also balances activities and freetime with plenty of games to enjoy in the interim.

Kiddos will also enjoy meeting princesses and making crafts in Fairytale Hall, living their Star Wars dreams in the Star Wars: Cargo Bay, and splashing around in the Toy Story Splash Zone, among many other magical experiences on board!

Themed to heroes and villains, the Disney Destiny, as with each of the other ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, will feature nightly entertainment including Broadway-style shows, movie theaters, multiple pools, and character meet-and-greets. Knowing some of what being on board has to offer, where exactly is the Disney Destiny going to be heading? How long can your trip last? Check back in next week to explore cruise durations and itinerary highlights! Thanks for cruising into the weekend with me!
