Your Next Getaway: No Passport Required

Kauai's coast on a beautifully sunny day

Here in the U.S., we like to talk about freedom—a lot. And while most of us don’t associate that with travel planning (umm, 47 open tabs and still no hotel??), the concept fits.

Because when a trip is done well—actually well—you do feel free. Free from stress. Free from overthinking. Free to sink into your surroundings and enjoy them, not manage them.

And sometimes, the best place to find that kind of freedom is in your own backyard.

🌄 Thoughtful Travel That’s Closer Than You Think

Despite where my thoughts go first, you don’t have to hop on a red-eye to Europe or fly halfway across the world to have a meaningful, elevated experience. In fact, some of the most memorable, relaxing trips I plan for clients are right here in the States.

What sets them apart is the way they’re built: with care, intention, and just the right balance of structure and spontaneity.

U.S.-based getaways are especially ideal if you:

  • Want a long weekend that still feels restorative
  • Need a lower barrier for families or multigenerational groups
  • Are short on vacation days but big on wanting a break
  • Love good food, gorgeous landscapes, and comfortable lodging—but despise long flights

✨ A Few Favorite “No Passport Needed” Escapes

Here are some U.S.-based trips I absolutely love planning:

🌺 Hawai‘i, Beyond the Basics

Okay, so this is not one for my people avoiding long flights. But if you like the sound of black sand beaches and volcanic vistas, guided cultural experiences, a mix of adventure (helicopter rides, waterfall hikes) and rest (oceanfront massages, private lanais), and carefully paced island-hopping that’s still relaxing… These islands will scratch the international itch without having to go through customs.

🏞 National Parks, the Upgraded Way

No crowds. No chaos. Just private guides, cozy lodges, and awe-inspiring landscapes. Think sunrise in Zion, floating through the Grand Tetons, or watching geysers bubble in Yellowstone—from a front-row seat, not behind a busload of people. If you’re tired of the masses negatively impacting your NP experiences (🙋🏼‍♀️), oh boy, do I have some options for you to consider!

🎢 Family Travel Without the Overwhelm

As I’ve shared before, even places like Disney and Universal can feel elevated. With VIP tours, early entry, dining reservations, and luxury hotel stays that don’t feel chaotic, families can actually enjoy the exhilaration and the downtime.

🌵 Desert Retreats & Coastal Gems

Sedona, Santa Fe, the Pacific Northwest, New England in the fall—this country is full of places that feel like you’re away in all the best ways. I’m already daydreaming. These trips are ideal when you want to unplug without sacrificing quality cuisine, interesting culture, or a really good robe.

🎯 Why Now Is a Great Time to Book

Many of these destinations shine in the fall and early spring—and the best properties, guides, and flights go fast. Whether you’re dreaming of something last-minute or want to lock in dates for 2026, early planning gives you:

  • More choice and flexibility
  • Better availability (especially for those holiday or school break trips)
  • A chance to get excited now, not just when you’re packing your bag
